Harvard Business School , officially known as Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration: George F. Baker Foundation , also known by its acronym HBS , is one of the graduate schools at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts , United States . Regarded as the most respected business school in the world, it is ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek , Financial Timesand business insidersranked first.
On October 1, 1908, the faculty began operations under Dean Edwin F. Gay with 15 faculty and 80 students .The first location was Cambridge , Massachusetts . In 1927 the faculty moved across the Charles River to its current location in Allston , a Boston borough . Female students were first admitted to the regular MBA program in the 1965 class. There are currently about 65,000 living Harvard Business School alumni .
A two-year full-time MBA program is offered, doctoral studies in various specializations (with a DBA or PhD degree ) and various executive development programs. Around 930 to 940 students are currently admitted to the MBA program each year,which are divided into ten groups (named from A to J). Each of these groups goes through the courses of the first year together, which should make it possible to establish close social contacts within this group. About 99.5 percent of a cohort successfully complete the MBA program. The courses are almost exclusively carried out in the form of case studies , which the students prepare and discuss in the courses.
Since 2005, Harvard Business School has refused to actively participate in business school rankings . Nevertheless, the university regularly occupies the top positions in international MBA rankings. Most recently she was z. B. 2016 in the global MBA ranking of the Financial Times .
In the 2016 Eduniversal Business School Ranking, Harvard Business School is ranked #2, with Copenhagen Business School #1 and INSEAD #3.This ranking is based on a survey of deans of leading universities worldwide.
In the 2013 Webometrics Ranking Web of Business Schools, Harvard Business School was ranked third in the world, with the Wharton School being ranked number 1 and Copenhagen Business School number 2.
In 2000, The New York Times wrote that, based on its reputation, HBS was "one of the two best business schools in the country, a notch above Pennsylvania's Wharton School [and others]."(German: "one of the top two business schools in the country, a little above the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania [and others]"). Regarding the rivalry with Stanford , it is said that Harvard "may have the advantage of better name recognition than Stanford, and more resources."(German: "could have the advantage of better recognition of the name and better equipment").

Carroll said in 1976: “The great secret of the Harvard Business School's success has been its great emphasis on executive education, which has kept the school very much tied into corporate America.
